Massage Therapy and Custom Orthotics

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. If employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury, massage therapy can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning. Massage therapy is governed under the Regulated Health Professionals Act, 1991 (RHPA).

Massage therapy treatments provided by a registered massage therapist (RMT), are covered under most extended health benefits plans, and you may be able to receive reimbursement for all or part of the fee incurred.

Custon Orthotics

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes - they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole - and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet. In most cases, if you have work health insurance, you are covered in some way or form for custom orthotics. The Healthy family uses foam foot molding to cast your foot for the most precise fit as well as a detailed gait analysis and foot palpation to ensure proper foot biomechanics. Once this is complete, all information including moldings is sent to Premiere Orthotics Lab where your custom orthotics will be made. http://premierorthoticslab.com/ Orthotics are a great way to ensure proper biomechanics is achieved and can help further your care in our office.
