Pregnancy Chiropractic Care in Milton

More and more women are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care and pregnancy. The most common complaint where women seek chiropractic care in pregnancy is for low back pain. However, as more women utilize chiropractic care, they are noticing additional prenatal and post-partum benefits.

  • Maintain a healthy pregnancy
  • Controlling symptoms of nausea during pregnancy
  • Prevent a potential caesarean section or orther surgeries
  • Reduced labour time and delivery (Chiropractic patients frequently report less than 4 hours)
  • Relieving back, neck, or joint pain
  • Increasing the likelihood of full-term delivery
  • Decreased chances of complications during delivery
  • Decreased changes of breech position (Webster's Technique)

How does Chiropractic help moms-to-be feel more comfortable during pregnancy?

By adjusting your spine, your chiropractor can help relieve nerve pressure and muscle strain. As a result, you can have less muscle pain and referred pain to the extremities. Pregnancy chiropractic care also helps to alleviate back pain, neck pain and extremity pain without painkillers (which could be dangerous to your growing baby).

What are some other benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy?

While chiropractic effectvely addresses prenatal aches and pains, it also allows your body to communicate with itself more effectively through the improvement of nerve function. These improvements can optimize your (and your baby's) overall health, helping to manage swelling, morning sickness, hormonal swings, and other prenatal side effects as well. You may even enjoy an easiser, quicker labour period.

Is pregnancy chiropractic care safe?

Yes; it's very safe! Our Chiropractors use safe and gentle techniques assuring your comfort during every adjustment. We also feature special tables that allow you to rest comfortably through your session, even as your belly grows larger.

Why should I have chiropractic during pregnancy?

During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that occur in preparation for creating the environment for the developing baby.

The following changes could result in a misaligned spine or joint:

  • Protruding abdomen and increased back curve
  • Pelvic changes
  • Postural adaptations

By establishing pelvic balance and alignment in the spine, this allows the body to adapt to an ever changing environment throughout all three trimesters. Furthermore, when the pelvis is misaligned, it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby, which can make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery. This reduction in space causes supporting ligaments to become twisted known as intrauterine constraint. Correction of intrauterine constraint is accomplished through a Chiropractic technique known as the Webster technique.

Questions and Answers

Is chiropractic safe in pregnancy?
Chiropractic is extremely safe and very sensible for both mother and baby.

Is it difficult to receive a chiropractic adjustment when pregnant?
Not at all. Chiropractors are trained in adjusting the spines of pregnant women and many chiropractic adjusting tables have special modifications and pillows for the pregnant figure.

How late in pregnancy is it possible to get an adjustment?
Patients have received adjustments even during labour, as that is when movement/shifting happens in the mother's pelvic area.

Can spinal care help postpartum depression?
For years chiropractic's beneficial effects on emotional stress and personality have been noted. At least one journal has quoted a doctor as saying that "postpartum depression is a rarity in patients receiving chiropractic care".

Can back pain be helped with chiropractic?
Chiropractic is not a treatment or therapy for back or spinal pain. However, with chiropractic spinal adjustments the body will be better able to heal its back and spinal pain, as well as many other health problems. Studies have shown a significant decrease in back and labour pains in mothers receiving chiropractic care.

Do I have to have a problem in pregnancy to see a chiropractor?
Not at all. Chiropractic should be used as preventive maintenance. Periodic spinal checkups during pregnancy should be as common as periodic weight checkups.

Can my baby receive chiropractic?
Yes of course! Chiropractic is very safe and gentle. Infants as early as a few hours old have been given spinal checkups and adjustments. We strongly recommend and are passionate about children receiving spinal check-ups. Labour can be very stressful on a new born, having your baby checked as soon as possible will allow them the gift of good spinal and nerve health as they grow.

I know there is so much controversy between chiropractic and medical care, but if it were not for chiropractic I would still be in pain. A car accident left me with constant back pain. I tried everything from painkillers to preparing to have surgery. I heard stories from my friends who had surgery and to this day wish they never had it. I decided to go to Dr. Posa before the surgery and I am so thankful that I did. My back pain is 95% gone and my life has changed because of Dr. Posa. Thank you so much!

From the time I walked in the door I was impressed! I was seen promptly, and Dr. Posa was a true professional. When I was younger I was in a car accident and have been suffering with neck and back pain. Almost to the point that I couldn't get out of bed! After 6 treatments I started to see relief, and today it's like the accident never happened. I've been seeing Dr. Posa for about 2 years now and I am so excited about the future!
